On Father's Day, wonderful words of wisdom from the editor of the Chicago Sun-Times

“Life is about now and not then. Full speed ahead, no matter what. That, ultimately, is my dad’s legacy to me. I think about that every time I see him and talk with him. He never complained, he always talked about how well he was doing, or the beauty of where he was living or how much he was loved.

Acknowledge the defeats, but push on. And always, always celebrate the victories.”

Miss California & good old fashioned jealousy.

Ahh.. just in time. Now that the “Miss California” controversy is here, the liberal blogosphere can drum up their favorite pastime— demonize and demean the smart, attractive conservative woman!

Before Miss California, it was Sarah Palin. The haters tore her apart, from attacking her Down Syndrome baby as “illegitimate” to dumbing her down as some idiot Alaskan who didn’t know where Russia was. There was the celebrity fixation—OMG her daughter is preggers!— and deep, informative investigative reports about how much her clothes cost. (Critical information for the public to know as they decide whether she would be a good Vice President.)

Enter Miss California, who made the unfortunate mistake of -GASP- saying her opinion. She said she opposed gay marriage to the most gay, popular and dare I say mean-spirited celebrity blogger in America, releasing a witch hunt dedicated to bringing the “evil, gay-hater” down. She opposes gay marriage— she must be an “activist and breaking the Miss California rules”— she was half-topless in a photo shoot when she was 16— she’s a dumb blonde hypocrite!

Someone— call Donald Trump! Take back her crown!

More like get a clue.

Yes, Palin is a conservative, intelligent, pretty woman who opposes abortion. Miss California is a passionate, beautiful woman who opposes gay marriage. What Palin & Miss California have in common is that they are both victims of a liberal, hostile blogosphere that thrives on tearing people down to make themselves feel good.

All the obsession with trying to obliterate the reputations of these two women is nothing less than jealousy. It’s like the girl who makes fun of you in class because she envies your looks. Or the teammate who spreads rumors about you because he’s jealous that you’re the star of the team.

It’s sooo high school! And didn’t these people’s mothers ever teach them that it’s not nice to make fun of others?

Disagree with Miss California’s opinion on gay marriage? Discuss the issue with your friends. Unimpressed with Sarah Palin’s lack of international travel? Talk about why it’s important to you that the Vice President have a better grasp on foreign affairs. Putting people down nullifies what essentially could be fair criticism.

Ponder. Debate. Discuss. In America, that’s what thinking people do.
